Colchester is located midway between Hartford and Norwich and attracts new residents and visitors from both cities. Colchester’s central location, combined with a rural setting, its dedication to the public school system, and its quality of life create a very accommodating residential atmosphere for all its occupants.

The Colchester market consists of 5,400 single family homes and condos. 15,500 people call Colchester home with 7300 living in urban clusters with 8200 living in more rural or farm settings.  There are only 110 houses or condo units per square mile, making for a nice feeling of roominess all over town.  Shopping is with mostly local merchants rather than large chain stores.  The Air Line Rail Trail winds through Colchester, part of a 50 mile trail filled with peaceful relaxes recreation for walkers, hikers, bicyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts.
